Cavalier title defence ends after 2-1 defeat
Cavalier Soccer Club's defence of the Concacaf Caribbean Cup (CCC) came to an end in Barbados last night, after they conceded an added-time goal to lose 2-1 to Weymouth Wales at Wildey Turf.
Armando Ashley gave Weymouth Wales the lead after 10 minutes, but Daryl Massicot restored parity three minutes later, with a goal from close range.
Cavalier then wasted a number of good opportunities in the second half, before allowing Rommel Bynoe to head home in time added for the winner.
The Dominican Republic's Ciboa finished on top of the group with nine points, two more than Defence Force of Trinidad, who defeated Ciboa 2-0 to secure the other semi-final spot from the group, as they moved to seven points.
Weymouth Wales also finished on seven points, but Defence Force had the better goal difference.
Cavalier finished fourth on four points, while Juventus de Cayes finished at the bottom on one point.
The home team started well and got on the scoresheet early, when Ashley beat Jeadine White with a low shot from the edge of the area, to give his team the early advantage.
However, Massicot would put Cavalier back into the match, as three minutes after Romarion Thomas worked his was through a maze of defenders before laying the ball on a platter for Massicot to stab home from three yards.
Shaquille Stein wasted a good opportunity at the start of the second half, to put Cavalier into the lead.
However, Jerome McCleary had the two best chances for Cavalier, but he blasted the first one over from eight yards, after a great ball from Stein.
Then he inexplicably put the ball wide after he was played through with minutes to go.
