Daley on target to lead Charleston into USL semis
Former Clarendon College standout Nique Daley was on target in the third minute as his Charleston Battery team got by Dane Kelly's Charlotte Independence 2-1 to seal a spot in the semi-finals of the United States Soccer League.
Arthur Bosua scored the all-important goal in extra time as the Battery advanced to the Eastern Conference semi-finals where they will face the Tampa Bay Rowdies who got by Birmingham Legions FC 4-2.
In other games, former Wolmers and Harbour View youth player Saeed Robinson scored the winning penalty, as his team El Paso Locomotive came away with a 4-2 penalty kick win over FC Tulsa, this after the sides had played to a 2-2 draw in full and extra time.
Robinson and El Paso will now square off with Romeo Parkes New Mexico United in the Western Conference semi-finals as they got the better of San Antonio 1-0 courtesy of a Chris Wehan 110th-minute strike.
Elsewhere, Kevon Lambert played all 90 minutes while Damion Lowe was a 118th-minute substitute, as Phoenix Rising edged Sacramento Republic one-nil thanks to a 114th-minute goal from Solomon Asante.
Phoenix's opponent in the Western Conference semi-finals will be Reno 1868 who comfortably got the better of LA Galaxy Two 4-1 thanks largely to a double strike from Corey Hertzog.
In other quarter-final matches, Devon 'Speedy' Williams and his Louisville City FC got the better of Kenardo Forbes Pittsburg Roverhounds 2-0.
Louisville will match up with Saint Louis FC who edged Hartford Athletic 1-0.
The semi-finals of the UCL Championship will take place on Saturday.
