Portmore United striker Rondee Smith has vowed to keep on hitting the back of the net in the Red Stripe Premier League until Jamaica senior men's team coach, Theodore Whitmore, gives him his first national call-up.

Smith is currently the leading scorer in the league with eight goals, and he believes if he remains at the summit of the goalscoring chart until the end of the season, Whitmore will have to take notice of his abilities.

"I have been scoring goals, and I know if I continue to score they will have to look at me, because it has always been my dream to represent the country," Smith said. "At the beginning of the season, I promised myself that I want to score as many goals as possible to make an impression on the coach and I think if I continue to work hard I will get that call."

FRONT-RUNNERS FOR BEST GOAL

The 27-year-old scored two of his eight goals in spectacle fashion on a Monday night fixture against Harbour View on September 24.

The goals have been regarded as front-runners for goal of the season by many pundits and has placed Smith on the radar of defenders around the league.

"Since those two goals, they have started paying more attention to me now; but I have to be clever with how I approach games now," he said. "But I think I have adapted to the spotlight being on me now and just working to get more goals."

Smith and his scoring partner Javon East, who has scored five times this season, have ensured that the defending champions are in the race for the regular season title.

Portmore are only behind league leaders Waterhouse by a point.
