Rusea's face tough Brown's Town as second round begins
Western Bureau:
The match-up between Rusea's and Brown's Town at 3 p.m. in the Montego Bay Sports Complex will be one of the most anticipated first leg action in the 2017 ISSA/FLOW daCosta Cup seeded second round.
Rusea's, the most successful team in daCosta Cup in the past three decades, are on a quest to end their five-year drought, but have to get past a good Brown's Town team to reach the quarterfinals and rub shoulders with the big boys.
This afternoon, 12 teams will kick off the first leg of their second-round action in six matches.
The Theodore 'Tappa' Whitmore coached St. James High will also be in action for the first time in the second round when they take on Mile Gully at the Mile Gully Community Centre, kicking off at 3:00 pm.
Last year's Ben Francis Knockout Cup winners Lennon High will also go into battle for the first time in the second round when they visit Lynch Park to play against Port Antonio High at 3:00 pm.
most impressive
Most teams contested their first leg of two in this round on Wednesday with some very interesting results. Last year's semi-finalists all recorded wins, with Manchester looking the most impressive, trashing Ewarton 7-1 but number three seed STETHS recorded what could be called an ugly 3-2 win over stubborn Cedric Titus.
One of the most surprising results on the day came from fifth seeded Dinthill who went into the second round with a perfect win record that ended with a draw with number 28 seed Bellefield. Dinthill is now faced with a big task this afternoon to record a second leg win in their backyard to secure a place in the quarterfinals stage of the competition.
Another surprising result that came out of Wednesday was Munro College's home loss to Frome 1-0. The seven-time champions Munro have found themselves with a tough ask to overhaul Frome at the Frome Sports Complex by two goals if they are to book their tickets to the prestigious quarterfinals.
