Woman thinks I am with her husband for his house

January 12, 2021

Dear Pastor

This is the first time I am writing to you, but I read your column every day. It is through your column that I got a man. He is the most loving man I have ever met. When I met him, I told him that I had two children. Pastor, he took those children as his very own.

My daughter was 14 years old and my son was 10. Their father never paid them any attention. The only thing they can remember is that he came to Jamaica and took them out for dinner, and bought them chicken and chips.

My daughter has just finished university and she is getting married very soon. I asked her if she would invite her father to the wedding and she said she would not want to see him sitting at her reception. She wants my husband, who is her stepfather, to give her away. My husband is so excited; he loves her so much. The only problem, Pastor, is that we are not yet married. He is now 81 years old, but he is very strong.

He never wanted us to get married because he is still tangled up with his wife. She believes that I am with him because I want the house. I knew I was wrong because I spent a lot of money on this house, but it is her house and I am not going to hold on to it.

I told my children that I am willing to walk away from this man because I want to serve the Lord. I would not want staying in this house to cause me to live in sin and go to hell. The house in which I am living, he and this woman bought it years ago.

What do you think I should do?

Dear L.,

Tell this man to go and speak to an attorney-at-law, who would give him legal advice. In my opinion, he is to divorce his wife and agree to split the assets. She should get what she is entitled to. I don't understand why this matter has been standing in your way for so many years. Your man should not rob this woman of what she is entitled to. Therefore, he should hurry up and do what is right, very soon.

I am glad to know that he is respected by your children and that they love him. I wish that your daughter will plan well for her wedding. May they have a happy life together.

I further suggest that you ask your daughter to help you and this man to take this matter in hand before he gets older.
