Farmer implicated in cocaine seizure surrenders to cops

February 04, 2026

Renaldo Brooks, a St Elizabeth farmer who was named as a person of interest following the seizure of more than 48 kilogrammes (approximately 110 pounds) of cocaine at the Sangster International Airport on January 26, has been charged.

Brooks surrendered to the police at the Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division (FNID) Area 1 office in Montego Bay, St James, on Monday, accompanied by his attorney. Following a question-and-answer interview, he was formally charged with possession of, dealing in, attempting to export, and conspiracy to export cocaine.

Reports are that on January 26, anomalies were detected at the airport during an electronic examination of a suitcase that was destined for Canada. A physical search of the luggage revealed several sachets containing the cocaine, which has an estimated street value of $30 million. Brooks is scheduled to appear in the St James Parish Court this Friday, to answer to the charges.

The FNID continues to encourage anyone with information on illicit drugs to contact the unit at 876-923-6184, the police emergency 119 number, or visit the nearest police station.
