Morgan Heritage feels the love in St Maarten

They came, they saw, and they left an indelible mark on their dedicated fans at the St Maarten's One Love Reggae Concert on Sunday.

For Morgan Heritage, it was another chance to showcase why they are one of Jamaica's leading musical families, delivering not just popular songs but messages written with inspiration in mind. Carnival Village was the place to be over the weekend as the musical clan showed out for their legion of fans who turned out to hear them make both melodies and memories. According to Mojo Morgan, it was a beautiful event, especially since it had been 10 years since they had performed on the island.

"The place was packed from front to back and side to side. Witnessing the love for and impact of our music also highlighted the strength of the diaspora in the Dutch Antilles. The French colonised countries in the region and in Africa connect with our music, which resonates in the hearts and minds of these people," he said.

Mojo added that the concert is a forerunner to the group's upcoming tour of the Netherlands, which he said holds a special place in his heart. It was one of the first European countries that truly embraced them without any hesitation and without seeking anything in return - except the provision of good, clean music.

"For me, it is a great anticipation of what is to come as we have booked shows in the Netherlands from May 24 to 31. We will be visiting Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Eindhoven, Sittard, Drachten, and Deventer."

The Netherlands, he added, has directly contributed to the family's meteoric rise in the industry.

"The Netherlands is very special for the group Morgan Heritage as it's the first country where the national television did a documentary on our tour back in 1999 when we had just released the Don't Haffi Dread album. They fell in love with the whole family structure of us being on tour with our father and our mother, and our siblings. It was a joy for them to see and experience us as a cohesive unit. So to go back to the Netherlands is significant as it reflects the journey and success of the group and what we have been able to achieve with our fan base in Europe."
