The baptism of dancehall deejay Vybz Kartel would have a global impact said several ministers and gospel recording artistes.

"It would reassure a lot of people who were losing their faith and reaffirm them into God's Kingdom," said gospel lyricist Chozenn.

"Vybz Kartel has a cult-like following, so even though we see dancehall evolving and fans exploring the music of other acts like a Skillibeng or a Popcaan, there are still many that would follow in his footsteps. Imagine the amount of people dat a guh come home to the Kingdom, if in fact Kartel baptises."

"God works mysteriously, and he has been doing this for a long time with Kartel tugging on his heart. I'm not surprised with how the Lord moves, but I am in awe. I would give him one of the biggest hug and say, 'Come my brother, let we go church'," the Wul Dem Yah artiste said.

Vybz Kartel, whose given name is Adidja Palmer, is serving a life sentence for murder, and Christians all over have been praying for him to become a 'child of God'..

Powerful influence

"This man has a powerful influence in Jamaica, especially with the young people. He is an intelligent young man with a great mind despite what many may think, and with him coming into the Kingdom of God, it could only mean good for the nation and the young people and the world," the Reverend Karen Bryan, pastor of the Acts of the Holy Spirit Ministries in Montego Bay, St James, said.

Recording artiste Jahmiel baptised two weeks ago, joining a band of secular artistes who have taken the step from sin to grace. The likes of Papa San, Lt Stitchie, Lady Saw, now Minister Marion Hall, Alaine, Miss Chin and Suspense have all affirmed their faith in God.

Stephen Blake, the self-proclaimed 'Pastor of the Dancehall' and a member of the Acts of the Holy Spirit Ministries International, shared similar sentiments and said that Christians have been praying for Kartel's salvation.

"It would be a great victory for the Kingdom of God, if it is true. This would affect the dancehall in a massive way, and an even bigger way than he has done before - like Saul to Paul in the Bible - maybe he could have the same impact. One soul for God is worth more than any negative that he could have contributed to society cause good is more powerful than evil, so his good would outweigh any bad in the long run," Blake said.

"Let's pray fi the 'Teacha' as we are ready to work with him to make God's work even more effective by bringing the gospel on the highway and the byways," the pastor added.
